The El Dorado Mineral and Gem Society
of Placerville, California, was founded in January
1949 and is a 501c3 nonprofit educational organization.The society's mission is to learn about and share interests in rocks, minerals,
and the lapidary arts.
The society holds
program and sponsors a variety of special events including
lapidary classes, jewelry arts classes,
annual rock and gem
show and hosts
the county fair mineral
The society publishes a monthly
which is free to its members.
In its support of earth science education, the society contributes to college
scholarship funds, and members make
presentations at local elementary
schools and shares rock and material with them.
It is affiliated with the
California Federation of Mineralogical Societies, which is one of
seven regions belonging to the American Federation of Mineralogical
The Society is also a member of the "Co-op" Field Trip Leaders Association.
"Co-op" is a formal nonprofit organization consisting of several northern California societies
that share field trips.
